Installing Shout3D on Your System

This CD contains the EARLY RELEASE version of Shout3D 2.0, produced on November 15, 2000. It is complete and robust, and contains every feature discussed in the text. However, the Final Release of Shout 2.0 is planned for later in 2000. Before installing this Early Release version, check www.shout3d.com to see if the Final Release is available for download. If it is, use it instead of the version on this CD.

Installing Shout3D is as simple as unzipping one of the three versions of the installation package. Windows users can simply double-click on the .exe version of the package to automatically unzip. Mac users can "unstuff" the .sit version by double-clicking. Other users must manually unzip the .zip version.

Either way, install the files on whatever hard drive you choose under the directory name Shout3d_2.0. For example, the default installation to the C: drive will be to C:\Shout3d_2.0. That's all there is to it.

Once you have unzipped the files, you can look in the online User Guide (docs\user_guide\contents.html) for more information, if necessary.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR MAC USERS: The Early Release version of Shout3D 2.0 found on this CD does not contain a Mac version of the Shout3D Wizard. Thus you must create your own HTML file with applet tags to run Shout3D content, and cannot produce compressed (.s3z) scene files or optimized .zip archives. Make sure to always use shout3dClasses.zip as the archive in your applet tags. Examples can be found in almost any HTML file in the demos directory. Make sure you have checked www.shout3d.com to see if the Final Release is available for download.

Microsoft Internet Explorer for the Mac does not fully support JavaScript, and therefore the JavaScript demos in the Shout3D installation will not work in that browser. More generally, MIE for the Mac does not respond to any keyboard input to Shout3D Java applets.
